A skip is a great way of managing your waste and recycling items in a convenient and cost-effective way. During any house renovation, building materials and rubble can really get in the way. It can also be a health concern if they are left around for people to trip over. A skip will give builders and home renovators the option of disposing of goods in one convenient place rather than having to pile items up to try to get them out of the way.
Skip hire in Northenden
Need help finding
the right skip size?
Skip Size Guide
You can get skips in many different sizes to meet varying requirements. Cheadle Skip Hire based near Poynton, will recycle around 90% of the waste that they find in the skip. However, there are certain items that you are not allowed to put in a skip. Whilst rubble, garden materials and plastics are fine to placing a skip, here are the items that you should be wary of:
Asbestos
This is the top of the list when it comes to harmful materials and asbestos can be very harmful to anybody who comes in contact with it. If you find that you have any asbestos in your home or in your office clearance, you need to seek professional assistance about this rather than simply placing it in the skip.
White Goods
A fridge or freezer cannot be put into the skip and will need specialist treatment. Some of the parts of the freezer can be recycled, but there are many items that will contain damaging materials which should be dealt with professionally. Seek advice in this case.
Light Bulbs
Light bulbs should not be placed inside a skip because they contain hazardous materials including a constituent of mercury - which is poisonous.
Paint
Paint should not be put into the skip because again it can cause damage to the environment. If you simply put it in your general waste, it will be put into a landfill which can be very harmful to the environment.
Car Batteries
A car battery contains a lot of hazardous chemicals, such as lead and sulphuric acid. This means that you need to make sure that you recycle them properly and do not put car batteries into your skip.
TV Monitors
You need to dispose of your TV monitors and other electricals responsibly which means not putting it into a skip. The wiring and other metals aren't allowed in landfills.
Skip Hire Guide
[+] What size do I need?
-
The volume of our skips is measured in cubic yards as follows, Mini - 2, Midi - 4, Small Maxi - 6, Large Maxi - 8.
1 cubic yard holds approximately 765 litres or around 10 average bin bags.
Unlike some other skip hire companies, who supply maxi skips that are 6 or 7 cubic yards, our skips are true to size.
The size you need also depends on how much you break down your waste and pack it into the skip, such as bulky furniture etc… But remember all skips no matter the size must be filled level with the sides. We are unable to collect overfull skips due to the waste not being contained within the skip and deemed as a dangerous load when driven down the road.
Access can also determine the skip size you need. We operate 3 different sizes of skip trucks (3.5, 7.5 and 18 tonne gross vehicle weight). If you have a tight driveway and have heavy material to dispose of (such as bricks or soil), you will need to hire a smaller skip so our smaller trucks can lift the full skip. Please contact us for advice.
